“Hey, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have---” he began apologetically, his handsome features scrunching up in great concern.

I took a deep breath and said, “If we hadn’t broken up then, we would’ve both been miserable for a very long time.”

I was speaking the truth from my heart, and he knew it. A shadow of hurt crossed his eyes. “You’re probably right,” he agreed. “I wouldn’t have realized my mistakes. I would have messed up my life and yours big time.”

My chest was beginning to constrict with unshed tears and a lot of unsaid words.
